Walsall Town Centre area action plan
We have a long term plan for Walsall Town Centre. You can read this in the Walsall Town Centre Area Action Plan (AAP). The AAP allocates development sites for new:
- shops
- leisure facilities
- offices
The AAP and sets out policies and proposals for other aspects of Walsall Town Centre. This includes transport and the environment. The AAP sets our planning framework and informs the planning decisions we make

Sustainability Appraisal (SA)
We carried out sustainability appraisals of the Site Allocation Document (SAD) and AAP. The SA incorporates a:
- Strategic Environmental Assessment
- Equality Impact Assessment
- Health Impact Assessment
The SA assesses the impact of our plans on social, economic and environmental issues. It consists of four parts:
- deciding what these issues are
- appraising options for plans
- appraising proposed draft policies
- preparing a report detailing what we did
AAP multi-stage consultation, examination and publication
We adopted the AAP in 2019, after a multi-stage consultation from 2013 to 2018.

We submitted the AAP to the Secretary of State on 7 June 2017. The Planning Inspectorate examined this.
