Rushall junction (A461) improvements: Information for consultation - 8. New shared‑use cycle path along Station Road
Where
From the main Rushall junction along Station Road, connecting into National Cycle Route 5 (NCN5).
What is proposed
- A new shared‑use path for pedestrians and cyclists along Station Road.
- This will be wide enough to allow pedestrians/cyclists to safely pass each other.
- A new Tiger crossing will be introduced on Station Road at the NCN5 crossing point. This provides a dedicated space for cyclists to cross separately from pedestrians.
Why this change is needed
- To reduce conflict between vehicles and cyclists by allowing cyclists to use the footway instead of the carriageway.
- To encourage cycling and support active travel.
- To provide a safer and more direct connection into the existing National Cycle Route 5.
How this will be delivered
- The footway on the south side of Station Road will be widened using land already owned by Walsall Council.
- The existing build‑out area between the two sides of NCN5 will be upgraded to form the new Tiger crossing. The crossing will remain raised to slow vehicle speeds.
