Rushall junction (A461) improvements: Information for consultation - 6. New straight‑across Toucan crossing for cyclists and pedestrians

Where

Between McDonald’s and the existing Lichfield Road Council car park.

What is proposed

A new straight‑across Toucan crossing with push‑button control. This type of crossing can be used by pedestrians and cyclists.

Why this change is needed

  • To improve cycling and pedestrian connections across Lichfield Road.
  • To reduce waiting times for cyclists and pedestrians crossing the road.
  • Easier and safer exit from the existing carpark into keep clear waiting space.
  • To support the new crossing and improve traffic flow, right‑turn movements from Lichfield Road into the Council car park will no longer be permitted. This will help maintain traffic flow towards Walsall town centre.

How this will be delivered

  • The existing traffic signals will be updated to provide a straight‑across crossing with a push‑button facility and green man indication.
  • Central refuge will be lengthened to prohibit the right‑turn into the carpark.
