Conservation and the environment
Protected habitats in and around Walsall Borough
Many of our parks and green spaces have special classifications created by local councils, Natural England, The Wildlife Trust and the Black Country biodiversity partnership. Sites qualify for the richness and diversity of their geology and ecology.
Walsall Council consults with Natural England and the Urban Wildlife Trust about developments on or near to such sites to help protect them. There are a number of sites in Walsall that are protected at an international, national or local level to preserve and conserve their important environments. How such sites are developed and used is strictly regulated to avoid any damage or harm to them.
Conservation sites classified locally
Our Local Nature Reserves, Sites of Local Importance to Nature Conservation and Sites of Importance to Nature Conservation are classified locally.
Conservation sites classified nationally and internationally
Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Special Areas of Conservation and the Black Country UNESCO Global Geopark are classified nationally or internationally.
