Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is an area notified under the Wildlife and Country Act 1981 and subsequent amendments because of its flora, fauna, geological or physiographical features. Such sites are given special protection against listed damaging operations, as well as receiving protection through national and local planning policy.
