Sites of Local Importance to Nature Conservation (SLINCs)

Sites of Local Importance to Nature Conservation (SLINCs) were introduced in the 1980s. They provide protection for places of geological and ecological interest. National and local planning policy protects these sites. They are identified by council officers and local stakeholder groups, as well as Natural England nationally, who are consulted on any development likely to affect a SLINC.
