Housing renewal assistance policy 2026 - 2030: 1. Introduction - 10.7 Terminal illness / palliative applicants

Where an applicant has a terminal illness, the council will consider providing assistance for the hire of relevant equipment (i.e. stair lifts etc.) rather than full capital purchase. This is in line with best practice of other Councils and support agencies such as Macmillan Cancer support.

The council has agreed to use its discretion to not require a Test of Resources for palliative applicants for works costing up to £9,000. In the main this enables a bathroom adaptation and stair lift (curved or straight) to be undertaken. All other matters relating to DFGs will continue to apply including for example property charges.
