Walsall Borough Housing Strategy 2026 - Overall quantum of housing required

The housing market assessment concludes that Walsall’s local housing need for the period 2025–2042 is 1,168 dwellings per year, resulting in a total requirement of 19,856 new dwellings over the 17-year plan period (HMA, Ch. 8, para 8.4; Table 8.1). This is considerably higher than the previous target of circa 750. 

This figure is derived using the government’s Standard Method, with no evidence found to justify a deviation (HMA, Ch. 4).
