This role is a 3-month ongoing temporary assignment.
Hours: On an ad hoc basis, maximum 37 hours per week, 4-day period, booked in daily. No weekends.
Salary: £11.39 per hour
Job duties:
- To support waste disposal over various areas in Walsall Borough
- Flexibility over the environmental, ground and cleansing depot
Necessary requirements:
- Attendance, punctuality and commitment

- To follow instructions given by senior members of the team
You will be walking excessive distances throughout the day. You'll be starting at 6am at the environmental depot (WS8 7EN). There is no public transport to this location at this time.

We are looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer at our site in Aldridge (WS9 8EX).
Days of work: 4 on days - 4 off – 4 on nights – 4 off rotating
Start and finish time: 8am – 8pm days. 8pm – 8am nights.
There may also be Overtime available.
Annual Leave: 20 days + bank holidays
A quick look at the role:
The role holder will efficiently carry out preventive and reactive maintenance, examination of and fault finding on plant and equipment and servicing activities on waste plastic sorting site, ensuring health & safety and environmental compliance and contributing to continuous improvement in operations and plant and equipment availability.
Duties:
- Provide high operational availability, and an efficient breakdown repair service. Diagnosis running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements are conducted within minimum time scale.
- Carry out replacement, repair and installation work to the required standards.
- Ensure productivity and availability exceeds minimum defined standards, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and operations.
- Develop and implement a programme of planned preventative maintenance and inspection to minimise downtime, provide records of recurrent faulting and develop engineered solutions to these issues.
- Carry out minor maintenance operations to plant and equipment.
- To liaise with external contractors on specific repairs/maintenance work.
- Keep abreast of changes to health & safety and environmental legislation and Company policies to ensure defined standards and best practice are implemented.
- Ensure compliance with all Company policies, processes and procedures.
- Review maintenance activities, implementing necessary corrective actions as required.
- To carry out any other such reasonable job related tasks as the Company may require.
Requirements:
- Minimum GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English.
- Engineering qualifications NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Mechanical, Electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic qualifications are all relevant – the role requires a multi skilled approach
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience as Maintenance Engineer or position of similar responsibility in similar environment.
- Proven track record of working to clearly defined KPI’s.
- Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational environment.
- Implementation of new processes and developments.
- Structured diagnostics & problem solving – a logical, methodical approach to fault identification
- Experience in temporary repairs to reach next allocated maintenance window – the site runs 24/7 and takes a weekly scheduled down shift to allow larger or more complex repairs to be completed
- Experience of PC based PPM system is desirable.
- Experience with lifting, slinging and mechanical lifting aids – much of the work is process plant based with large and heavy components
