Walsall Borough Housing Strategy 2026 - Regional context
Walsall’s future is shaped by its position within the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the Black Country sub-region. The West Midlands Growth Plan and WMCA’s devolution deal set ambitious targets for housing, infrastructure, and skills. Walsall is a key contributor to the regional aim of delivering 215,000 new homes by 2040, with a strong emphasis on brownfield regeneration and inclusive growth principles that link housing to health, education, and employment outcomes (WMCA, 2023). Through strategic partnerships with Homes England and other local authorities, Walsall is leveraging devolved funding to support affordable and specialist housing, modern methods of construction, and large-scale energy-efficient retrofitting.
Walsall Council will continue to work proactively with the WMCA and Homes England to access devolved housing and infrastructure funding, support brownfield regeneration, and pilot innovative approaches that deliver affordable and specialist housing at scale.
