Your feedback helps us to improve our website.

Get advice before you start your application

Before you apply for planning permission, we recommend that you get advice. There is a charge for this.

Pre-application advice

Our pre-application advice service will:

  • tell you if your application is likely to be accepted
  • suggest changes to give your application the best chance of success
  • tell you what forms and documents you’ll need to make your application valid
  • tell you what policies we are likely to apply to the application

It can’t guarantee that your application will be approved.

Development team pre-application meeting

We also offer a meeting with our development team. This includes meeting technical officers and specialists. We will:

  • advise you about what to include in your application
  • identify any potential planning constraints and the impact they may have
  • discuss possible conditions or legal agreements that you’ll need
  • clarify policies and issues specific to your site
  • provide written feedback

How much it costs

The cost depends on the type of development. You can check our fees before you start.

How to request our services

You can request either of these services online.

    • photographs to describe the existing site/building

We accept payment by card over the phone.

What to do next

After you've received our advice, you should prepare the documents on the relevant validation checklist. You’ll need to do this before you can apply for planning permission.
