Grange Farm Wood

A small wood consisting of evenly-aged birch with oak, rowan and holly. Wild apple, aspen, hazel and sallow were recorded and alder buckthorn, a species which is uncommon in the area, was also found. The field layer is grass dominated with creeping soft-grass and bent grasses. Wood poa and purple moor-grass occurred much less frequently. Much bare ground is present and the wood appeared to be well used by the public.

Management recommendations

To help diversify the ground flora species, age range and structure of the trees and shrubs, the canopy should be opened up in places.
