Polling district and polling places review
Background to the review
The recent Local Government Boundary Commission review of the electoral arrangements for Walsall Council concluded that the borough of Walsall still has 20 wards. Each ward still has three councillors per ward but many of the ward boundaries have changed. The new wards will come into effect at the local elections on 7 May 2026.
As a result of the new ward arrangements we must review polling districts and polling places to ensure the polling districts are appropriate for the new ward boundaries. This is required by the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013.

Purpose of the review
We need to ensure that voters have reasonable and practical facilities for voting, and that where possible:
- polling places are accessible to everyone who votes
- meet the needs of people with disabilities
This review will not consider the changing of any ward or parliamentary boundaries.
Polling districts and polling places
- a polling district is a geographical area within an electoral ward or parliamentary constituency
- a polling place is a location within the polling district where a polling station is situated
- a polling station is the room or area within the polling place in which voting takes place
Proposals for the consultation
We’d like your views on draft proposals for polling districts and polling places which align to the new ward boundaries. The draft proposals take into consideration feedback received from the Polling District and Polling Places review which took place in November and December 2024.
Read the draft proposals and (Acting) Returning Officer’s comments.
