Housing allocations policy review

We are reviewing our Housing Allocations policy. It sets out who qualifies to join the Council’s Housing Register. It also shows how we prioritise and nominate households to vacant properties. These properties are supplied to the Council from housing associations who operate in Walsall.

You can view the current policy to find out more. The Housing Allocations policy is required to give priority to certain groups of applicants, including people who:

  • are homeless
  • overcrowded
  • need to move because their current home is directly affecting their health.

Find out more and have your say

We’d like to hear your views on what we are proposing.

The consultation asks for your views on the following points:

  • Priority banding for houses and homes - who qualifies?
  • How long you need to have lived or worked in the Borough to qualify for social housing
  • How we allocate homes – direct offers, or choice based letting
  • How many properties are offered within a six month time period

Full details of the proposals are explained in the online survey below.

The consultation is open from Tuesday 7 May 2024 to Monday 22 July 2024.

You can also submit feedback by email if you don't want to complete the online survey.

Outcome of the consultation

We will publish the results of the consultation in August 2024.
