Walsall borough is famous for its enterprising and industrial past and has a proud heritage. Home to a world-renowned leather industry, high-end manufacturing businesses and a world-class college, Walsall is a hub of innovation and creativity.
The borough covers approximately 40 square miles serving a population of 286,700, with the district centres in Walsall, Bloxwich, Darlaston and Willenhall. The borough is both economically and demographically diverse and is led by a Conservative majority.
Our people are at our heart, and we have a vibrant, modern and culturally diverse community. With our partners, we want to ensure that they are able to maximise opportunities and reduce inequalities.
How we are transforming the borough
We have exciting regeneration plans with £1.5bn being invested to transform the borough, many of these projects are already well underway. In addition, organisations from across Walsall have come together to develop our ambitions. We are Walsall 2040 is the vision for the future of the borough which has been shaped by the views, ideas and ambitions of the people who live, visit and work here.
A recent Peer Review has highlighted lots of areas of good practice with strong governance arrangements and effective financial planning. The review praised the good work that our Council has implemented including our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
There are strong and effective partnerships within Walsall. This includes Walsall Together, a strong integrated partnership across health and social care, OFSTED rating Children’s Services as ‘good’, and excellent relationships with the business sector.
