Walsall Council kicks-off Great British Spring Clean with town centre litter pick
Published on
87 bags of rubbish have been removed from Walsall town centre thanks to a litter pick by Walsall Council staff.

The pick took place between 10am and 12noon on Friday 21 March and saw more than 50 staff, making use of voluntary hours, take to the streets to give the town centre a spring clean.
This pick formally kicks off the Great British Spring Clean in Walsall and ties in with the council’s priority to promote pride in the borough and to tackle the blight of fly-tipping.
Between March 21 and April 6, 27 community litter picks are planned, tackling every ward in the borough. Last year's efforts saw hundreds of volunteers collect 1,240 bags of rubbish.
“ I want to say a huge thank you to all the council staff who showed up and made a difference.
“I would encourage anyone who wants to do good for Walsall to get involved with some of the community litter picks coming up. Volunteer litter pickers find there are many benefits including making a difference to the borough, better mental and physical health and a greater sense of community.
“We have litter picks going on across Walsall so there is sure to be one nearby. “
Last year, Walsall Council’s Community Litter Watch (WCLW) celebrated its 5-year anniversary. In that time, 67,000 bags of rubbish have been removed from Walsall’s streets, the equivalent in weight of 108 Elephants.
