Memorials
When a loved one has passed away, you may wish to put a memorial in place to commemorate and remember them. We can provide information and assistance with a variety of memorials. Email us if you would like to receive further details.
An entry in the book of remembrance is a simple and lasting memorial. Each book is handmade using traditional methods. There is a separate page for each day, and they are displayed on the relevant dates.
The Ryecroft books contain inscriptions with red initials, and the Streetly books contain inscriptions with 23 carat gold initials.
Inscriptions, which can be two, five or eight lines long, are hand written by skilled calligraphers who can also create miniature images alongside the text of the longer entries.
You can see a digital replica of the entry in Streetly's Crematorium book or Ryecroft's Crematorium book at any time.

Miniature book of remembrance
Your own handmade and inscribed book of remembrance will contain seven pages allowing up to 14 inscriptions. Each book is covered in soft grey suede, embossed with the word ‘Remembrance’.
Each entry can have a miniature image placed alongside it if you wish.
Memorial cards
Made of high quality card stock with a wild rose image and the word ‘Remembrance’ printed on the front.
The card can hold up to two inscriptions, hand-inscribed by a skilled calligrapher in the same way as the main and miniature books are.
You can choose to have a miniature image placed alongside an inscription if you wish.

Options available: Two, five or eight lines of text, floral and non-floral emblems or coats of arms.
Small copper brown plaques, engraved with up to eight lines of text. The engravings are then filled with gold enamel to ensure the inscription is highlighted.
There is space on the plaque for an engraved image or a photo plaque to be added if you wish to include one.
The plaque is then installed on a granite base which incorporates a vase so that you may leave fresh cut flowers when you visit. No other vases or memorabilia are permitted.
There is no facility for cremated remains to be placed underneath or held within the memorial.
If you choose not to renew the lease you can collect the plaque to keep at home.

Location: Streetly Cemetery Garden of Remembrance
Accessibility: 365 days, suitable for all abilities
Type of memorial: 15 year lease
Options: up to 8 lines of engraved inscription, emblems and/or photo plaques
The body of these personal vaults, which can hold up to two sets of cremated remains, is a light grey granite. The vault is sealed with a black granite plaque which can be inscribed with up to 12 lines of engraved text. The engraved inscription is filled with gold enamel and there is space for an engraved image or a photo plaque to be added if you wish to include one.
The vault has an incorporated vase so you may leave fresh cut flowers when you visit. No other vases or memorabilia are permitted.
If you choose not to renew the lease you can collect the plaque to keep at home. The range of options available for the dispersal of the cremated remains will be discussed with you at the time you are invited to renew your lease but you can choose to take them home if you would like to.

Bloxwich and Ryecroft cemeteries
This memorial option contains space for up to two sets of cremated remains to be interred beneath the memorial plaque. Vases are not included but can be purchased from local memorial masons and placed behind the plaque. No other memorabilia is permitted.
The plaques are made of a mid-grey granite which is engraved with a border and up to three lines of text. The engravings are filled with a pale grey enamel paint. A further three lines of text can be added at any time, for an additional fee.

Streetly cemetery
This memorial option contains space for up to two sets of cremated remains to be interred beneath the memorial plaque. A vase holder is incorporated into this memorial so that you may leave fresh cut flowers if you wish to. No other vases or memorabilia are permitted.
The plaques are made of a mid-grey granite which is engraved with a border and up to four lines of text. The engravings are filled with a pale grey enamel paint. A further four lines of text can be added at any time, for an additional fee.

Options: up to six lines of inscription at Bloxwich and Ryecroft cemeteries, up to eight lines of inscription and a vase at Streetly cemetery.
Small sand coloured plaques, engraved with up to five lines of text. The engravings are then filled with black enamel to ensure the inscription is highlighted. There is space on the plaque for an engraved image or a photo plaque to be added if you wish to include one.
The plaque is then installed on a black wall mounted frame which fully accessible.
There is no facility for cremated remains to be placed underneath or held within the memorial and there is no option for vases or other memorabilia to be left near the plaque.
If you choose not to renew the lease you can collect the plaque to keep at home.

Wooden casket
A simple, high quality wooden casket to hold one set of cremated remains. The casket could be used for transporting cremated remains to their final resting place but is also suitable for keeping at home if you wish to. The casket is supplied with an engraved gold coloured name plaque.
Metal urn
A simple spun silver coloured metal urn which is ideal for transporting cremated remains to their final resting place. The urn is supplied with an engraved gold coloured name plaque.

Options: Wooden caskets, metal urns
These graves are designed to hold up to four sets of cremated remains. Memorialisation of the grave is flexible so long as the overall dimensions of the option you choose meet our requirements. Memorials can be sourced from a local memorial mason and fitted once a memorial permit application has been approved.
Given the number of locations these graves are available, and the flexibility of the memorialisation, we recommend that you contact us to discuss your requirements.

We do not offer memorial trees or benches in our cemeteries, but they are available in some of our parks and green spaces.
Booking a burial or scattering of ashes

3. Family or funeral director submit all relevant paperwork via email to BereavementServices@walsall.gov.uk
4. We will call you to book an appointment and take payment so please make sure you supply us with a contact number. Please note our number shows as withheld
5. We will email confirmation of your appointment. This will include a map of where to meet our representative
6. On the day of the service family arrive at the cemetery or crematorium and gather in the specified location
7. Council representative will meet you and carry out identity checks, then:
- Burial:
- Representative will place the ashes in accordance with your application
- Representative will install the memorial plaque or backfill the grave
- Scatter:
- Representative will take the ashes and transfer them into a scattering urn
- Representative will return and lead you to the Garden of Remembrance where the ashes will be scattered in accordance with the instruction you gave on the application form
