Items accepted
Types of waste, items for re-use or recyclingRemember to sort your waste before coming to the HWRC. We have tips on how to get the most out of your visit.
See our list of items we can accept for re-use, recycling or disposal at this site.
If you are disposing of batteries, or any items containing batteries please tell the operative as you enter the site. They can direct you to the correct disposal points.
Items can include:
- any type of single use or rechargeable battery
- electronic toys, household items, fairy lights etc
- items that contain concealed batteries, such as clocks, electrical items with timers etc
- vapes and e-cigarettes
Batteries and items containing batteries can be a fire hazard - dispose of them safely.
If you are using the HWRC facility to dispose of other waste, there’s a drop off point in this section of the site to donate items that are ‘too good to throw’.
If you think your item could be sold in the Re-Use Shop, just tell a member of HWRC staff and they can show you where to unload these items. We can’t accept an item for the Re-Use shop if it’s already classed as ‘waste’ in the HWRC.
Items can also be dropped off directly at the Re-Use Shop, if you don't need to use the HWRC section of the site.
What to expect on site
Restrictions
Vans, pick-ups and trailers (including van bookings)Vans and trailers must be pre-booked. You must give a minimum notice of one clear working day. Only one tip per week is permitted.
Contact us to make an appointment.
There is a weight limit of 2.5 tonnes gross for vans and pick-ups, this means the weight of the vehicle and the waste together should be no more than 2.5 tonnes. Large commercial type trailers will not be admitted. You'll need to provide proof that you live in Walsall when you arrive on site.
We cannot accept any vehicles longer than 6 metres in length. Due to their size, these vehicles cause congestion and delays for other users by blocking off bays while unloading. We also have to consider health and safety issues for our staff and other vehicles from these larger vehicles manoeuvering on site.
There are no restrictions on bringing domestic waste to our Household Waste Recycling Centres in large domestic vehicles such as 4×4s and people carriers. Larger vehicles which have been adapted to make them wheelchair accessible (WAVs) will be accepted.
At this time, no commercial or business waste is permitted on the site. You will be refused access if the operator suspects you are disposing of commercial waste.
We will be introducing a 'small trader' waste disposal scheme in Summer 2026.
Plan your visit
Don't forget to 'view the queue' with our live-feed web stream. You can see how busy the site is and decide when is best for you to visit.
- Items for the Re-Use shop should be packed so they can be removed first. The Re-Use shop is just inside the gate to the site, so these items can be dropped off first.
- If you have items that you think may be suitable for the Re-Use shop, they can also be dropped off at a special 'Re-Use items' container within the HWRC. Let us know when you arrive at the HWRC meet & greet point.
- Unloading points for large electrical items, hazardous items, batteries, vapes, gas bottles and textiles etc are on the lower level of the HWRC. Pack items like these where they are easily accessible as you'll reach these points first.
- General waste, tyres, mattresses, garden waste, plasterboard and rubble etc are disposed of on the upper level of the HWRC. Pack these items in your vehicle so they are the last items you need to remove.
