Playground Improvement Fund
Playgrounds are important for children, young people and families. They provide opportunities for fun, physical activity, creativity, social interaction and learning. They can also help support children's health and wellbeing.
The council reviews play areas to make sure they are safe, accessible and meet the needs of local communities. While some playgrounds provide excellent opportunities for play, others are older, in unsuitable locations or do not offer a wide range of play experiences.
The council is now exploring opportunities to improve play provision in priority areas across the borough, linked to the funding being allocated to Walsall via the Government's Playgrounds Fund. This funding could help invest in better quality play spaces, particularly in areas where the need is greatest.
As part of this work, we are considering improving current playgrounds in priority areas, and removing equipment that is poorly located, underused or offers limited play value. Any changes must also take into account the ongoing costs of inspection, maintenance and replacement.
We are looking at opportunities for improving local play provision at the following locations:
- Willenhall Memorial Park
- King George V Playing Fields, Bloxwich
- Barleyfields Row, Caldmore
People who use these parks or green spaces or live close by are invited to share their views which will be used to inform final decisions.
