Walsall Archives is free to visit. We’re located on the ground floor of the Lichfield Street Hub (LSH).
At the archives you can:

- pay for archival research services
How to join
Get a free Archives Card to access Walsall Archives and other archive services nationwide. Apply online or get help from our staff during your visit.
Before you visit
You’re free to visit during our opening hours, but we recommend that you email us to book an appointment and tell us what you need. This will help us to make sure we have space and material available for you. Our catalogue is online at the National Archives and Black Country History websites.
To ensure a safe and comfortable atmosphere for everyone and to protect our heritage, please follow our guidelines:
- food, drink, sweets (including chewing gum) are not allowed in the research room, (there’s a coffee shop in the library)
- put any large bags in the lockers provided (token provided)
- use pencils only (no pens)
- switch your mobile to silent
- young children must be supervised by an adult at all times
- be considerate of other readers by keeping noise to a minimum
- you are responsible for the safety of the documents issued to you - please don't leave any documents unattended
Accessibility at Walsall Archives
There are automatic doors from the street, through the library and into the archives.
Our computers have software to magnify what is on the screen.
