Get involved in the Walsall Archive for All project

How you can get involved

We're looking for people to:

  • scan images and enter information into our database
  • contribute to our blog
  • take part in exhibitions and events

Aims of the project

  • Digitising the collection: Volunteers are digitising over 9,000 of Jack Haddock’s photos. They are also adding details about each photo and working with his oral history recordings.
  • Preserving the images: The photos will be stored in a digital preservation system so they are safe for the future. They will also be shared online for everyone to see.
  • Working with the community: We will run events and workshops across Walsall. People can share their own stories, photos, and recordings. These will be added to the archive and shared online.
  • Learning and creativity: Jack Haddock’s collection is now part of Walsall College’s Photography Course, helping students learn and be inspired.
  • Exhibitions and sharing: We will show the project’s work in exhibitions, both online and in local spaces, with help from volunteers.
  • Updates and news: A blog will share the latest progress and show new items from the archive.

About Jack Haddock

Jack was a local photographer, historian and transport enthusiast. He spent many years cycling around Walsall with his camera, taking pictures of everyday life — buses, trains, canal boats, new buildings, and people going about their days.

His images help us see how Walsall has changed and what life here used to look like.

Jack’s work is an important part of Walsall’s history. By sharing your own photos, stories, or memories, you can help Walsall Archives continue his legacy and build a fuller picture of our Borough.
