Traffic regulation orders
Traffic regulation orders (TROs) are legal arrangements that allow the police or civil enforcement officers to enforce various traffic regulations.
We may implement a TRO for one or more of the following reasons:
- avoiding danger to persons or traffic
- preventing damage to the road or to buildings nearby
- facilitating the passage of traffic
- preventing use by unsuitable traffic
- preserving the character of a road especially suitable for walking or horse riding
- preserving or improving amenities of the area through which the road runs
- for any purpose specified in paragraphs (a) to (c) of the Environment Act 1995 in relation to air quality
How to make a new request, remove or amend a TRO
If you're doing some building work that affects a public right of way (PROW), you can close or divert a PROW by applying for a temporary TRO.
For all other requests, email the traffic management team and tell us:
- what restriction you want to have put in place, removed or amended
- the reason for this request
A senior engineer will investigate before replying to you.
Make a comment or objection
We advertise permanent TROs:
- on this website
- in the local press
- on street lights at the location
If you want to comment on a proposed TRO, email the traffic management team.
If you want to object to a proposed TRO, write to Director of Governance, Civic Centre, Darwall Street, Walsall, WS1 1TP. You'll need to include the TRO reference and your reasons for objecting.
