Aldridge Airport

The site was in active use as an airport from 1938 to 1956. Today, it is a large open space and outdoor activity centre. Visitors can enjoy a range of pursuits at the site, including flying model planes, football and walking.

Activities we offer

We offer WALX sessions, led by a qualified instructor. Learn more about how to book a WALX session.

Facilities and features

Accessibility

The site is grass, with a gentle slope. Most of the grass pathways are mown shorter than other areas and allow for turning of wheelchairs (1500-2000mm). Bad weather may make the paths difficult to use. There are a good number of benches on site, although most of these are alongside the main driveway and play area rather than spaced around the site.

All gates to the site are wide enough for wheelchair access, people with mobility impairments and pushchairs. Bunding, slopes and bollards make accessing the fields from the main driveway difficult except for the gates near the children's play area.

Sports pitches and equipment

The on-site Outdoor Activity Centre is specifically designed to be accessible, with accessible changing rooms, toilets and adventure equipment. Booking and use of the Outdoor Activity Centre is separate to core park activities.

Getting to Aldridge Airport

Several bus companies run services that will take you near to the site, including National Express West Midlands and Diamond. The nearest bus stops are located on Walsall Road - buses 6, 7, 7A and 7S and the junction of Birmingham Road/Barr Common Road - buses 837, 936 and 997 platinum.

The park has a high quality tarmac drive that runs from the entrance on Bosty Lane all the way to the centre of the site. Parking is available all the way down this. The large car park at the bottom of this drive (next to the play area and outdoor pursuits centre) is uneven. View opening times for the on-site car park
