Information about voting in the by-election
Information for voters- The last date you can register to vote in the by-election is midnight on Tuesday 26 August 2025. You can register to vote using the online government service.
- The last date for new applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes is 5pm on Wednesday 27 August 2025.You can apply for a postal vote online.
- The last date for new applications to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday 3 September 2025. You can apply for a proxy vote online.
- The last date for applications for Voter Authority Certificates is 5pm on Wednesday 3 September 2025. You can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate online.
Local government elections
Local government elections 2026The next local election will take place on 7 May 2026. It will be an "all-out" election, meaning every council seat can be contested.
You'll receive your poll card through the post in early April 2026. It will include the election date, address of your polling station and the polling hours, which are 7am to 10pm.
You'll need to take photo ID with you to vote.
