Housing land supply
Maintaining a supply of land is important to ensure there are enough homes for the growing number of people living in Walsall.
Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
The SHLAA lists all the sites that:
- have planning permission
- are allocated for housing in our local plan
- have potential for housing
We must identify and update a list of sites every year as per national planning policy.
We must also make sure we have enough sites to provide 5 years of housing to meet our needs.

You can view sites listed in the SHLAA on MyMaps (tick under the 'planning' tab in 'map categories').
Brownfield land register
Much of our housing supply comes from the redevelopment of brownfield sites. Brownfield sites are sites which are not currently in use but that have already been developed.
We must prepare and maintain registers of brownfield land suitable for residential development.
Walsall’s register includes sites in the SHLAA. Sites on the register are marked with a 'y' on MyMaps.
Assistive technology
Some of these files may not be suitable for users of assistive technology. If you use assistive technology and need a version of a document in a more accessible format, please contact us. We shall either provide you with an accessible version, or (in the case of maps and drawings) talk to you to explain the contents.
