Walsall Arboretum – Memorial Walk

The Arboretum has long been a special place for generations of Walsall families and Walsall Council is now proposing the development of a new memorial walk in the park which will give people the opportunity to commemorate the lives of their loved ones within a peaceful and reflective environment.

The proposed scheme would see investment in the existing footpath network within the Arboretum extension to create a circular walkway. Wooden sculptures would be installed along the walkway and people would have the opportunity to purchase an engraved leaf as a memorial to a loved one to be attached to one of the sculptures. Wildflowers would be planted alongside the pathway and a new bog garden is proposed to be developed in an area close to the stream.  It is planned that benches will be installed along the route for people to sit and contemplate.

“ All of our green spaces are valued by our communities and this became more evident than ever during the first year of the pandemic, especially when restrictions were in place.

Whether local families have sadly lost loved ones to COVID or other illnesses, family and friends often wish to do something in memoriam, such as purchasing a bench or planting a tree in one of our parks.

Artists’ impressions and an example of the engraved memorial leaves can be viewed in the consultation and I hope residents take the opportunity to let us know what they think about the proposals. It isn’t a long or complex consultation document so should only take a few minutes to complete. “
