Darlaston has been identified as one of 55 most overlooked towns in the country and has been awarded £20million government investment to be spent over the course of a decade.

This fantastic news comes as the Prime Minister announced a total of £1billion investment to put funds back into the hands of local people to improve their communities. Acknowledging that the country’s towns are often overlooked, the fund is set to be used on local priorities.

The new fund will help towns like Darlaston create a long-term plan based on the needs of the community. With support from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Walsall Council will put into place mechanisms that engage and involve local people, communities, stakeholders and businesses in shaping projects and programmes, capable of forging a brighter future for Darlaston.

“ This is fantastic news for the borough, especially for Darlaston residents. Investing in the places where we live and work to create local opportunities and improve quality of life is a top priority and this funding will help us to transform the town. I am thrilled with this news and look forward to seeing the plans for Darlaston progress. “

Walsall Council

The borough of Walsall is in the midst of a £1.5billion transformation which will create thousands of job opportunities and new housing.

The long-term plan for Darlaston joins the existing Town Deal plans for Bloxwich and Walsall Town Centre already being delivered. This new fund adds to the considerable amount of investment that Walsall has already attracted to transform the borough.

More information about Walsall’s regeneration plans can be found on the Walsall Council website.
