Move to improve your health with Movember challenge this November

Published on

Walsall Council is encouraging men in Walsall to take part in the Movember challenge by moving for mental health.

Movember

Movember is a time to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, suicide prevention, and mental health.

Since 2003, Movember has helped to raise the profile of men’s health and raised funds for the research and treatment of various health issues.

This year sees Walsall Council’s Healthy Spaces team taking the pledge to ‘move for Movember’ by running or walking 60km in one go or across the month.

“ We know that men are less likely to seek help for mental health problems, and that's why it's so important to raise awareness and encourage men to talk about their mental health.

The Movember challenge is a great way to get moving and improve your mental health and physical health at the same time. I would urge all men in Walsall to take part and make a pledge to move this Movember. If 60km is too much for you, you can pledge to move as little as 10kn throughout the month. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Wellbeing, Leisure and Public Spaces
Walsall Council

To take part in the Movember challenge, simply visit the Movember website and make a pledge to move at least 10km throughout the month.

Activities such as the 'mo-bro walk & talk' will be held on 20 November at 4pm at Walsall Arboretum Visitor Centre from 4pm to encourage men to keep healthy and moving.

Details of these activities will be posted on the Walsall Healthy Spaces social media channels using the links below.
