Council urges households to apply for £150 council tax rebate
Published on
Walsall Council is urging any household that has not already received the £150 council tax rebate to help with the cost of living crisis, to make sure they apply as soon as possible.
The Government announced earlier this year that households in council tax bands A-D would be eligible to receive the payment. People who pay their council tax bills by direct debit have already received the rebate automatically, but people who pay by a different method need to register to receive the money.
Across the borough, a total of 104500 households are eligible for the £150 payment and so far almost 81% have received the payment. The council is now appealing to the 18,000 households who have yet to engage in an effort to ensure they receive what they are entitled to.
Councillor Gaz Ali, Portfolio Holder for Customer Engagement said, “It is so important that people register to claim this £150 payment – this is the council tax rebate that the Government announced earlier in the year to help with the rising cost of energy.
“We have already paid out to around 81% of eligible households, but we need the remaining eligible households to understand they must apply to get the money.
“If residents are struggling with the process they can get support by visiting a community locations local to them. Details are available of where they are on our website. If you have a family member, friend or neighbour that has been unable to register then please do pass on this information.”
The easiest way for people to apply for the £150 is to complete an application online at Council Tax Rebate / Energy Rebate.
The closing date applications is 31 August however no eligible household will miss out. After the deadline date £150 will be added to the household’s council tax account.
Anyone requiring help to make their application can either call the council on the Energy Rebate line: 0300 131 9889 (Open during office Hours: 8:45am to 5:15pm Monday to Thursday and from 8:45am to 4:45pm on Fridays. The team can be contacted by email at CouncilTax@Walsall.gov.uk.
