24hour security patrols in Willenhall as council completes more of its compulsory purchase order

Published on

Walsall Council has moved closer to completing its Compulsory Purchase Order in Willenhall this week and is well on the way to acquiring over 21,000 square meters of land to develop into housing.

Some sites have been granted an extension to allow extra time for businesses to relocate to new premises however work will start on the acquired sites straight away to secure and prepare them for development.

Part of the council’s efforts to prevent further antisocial behaviour, such as the recent fires in derelict factories on Newhall Street and Moat Street, include providing security guards for 24hour security patrols in the area.

“ It’s brilliant news that we’re moving closer towards the completion of the compulsory purchase in Willenhall. I can’t wait to see activity start on-site to demolish these derelict buildings that have been a blight on the community for far too long.

These processes take time but this week we’ve cleared a major hurdle and there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Another huge step forward in our transformation of Willenhall, delivering high-quality new homes for the community.

It’ll take some time for contractors to survey the sites and put up fencing where needed, but it’s great news that we have been able to arrange 24hour security patrols in the area, hopefully this will put a stop to the antisocial behaviour we’ve been seeing recently and keep local people safe. “

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader
Walsall Council

Developer Keepmoat will be on-site to conduct surveys over the coming weeks before demolishing existing structures ready to remediate the land for construction. Preventing unauthorised access to the sites and reducing the risk of further antisocial behaviour is a priority for the council.

Outline planning permission was granted on 16 July 2024 for the demolition of existing structures on land at Moat Street, Temple Bar, Cemetery Road, Villiers Street and New Hall Street, Willenhall and the development of up to 54 apartments and 53 houses.

Walsall Council received funding from the Government through the former Levelling Up Fund, as well as funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority, to begin delivery of the Willenhall Framework Plan.
