Pleck traveller transit site
On this page
We have developed a temporary transit site at the junction of Pleck Road and Darlaston Road in Walsall. People following a travelling lifestyle can use it to stay in the Borough for short periods.
Site facilities
The site can accommodate up to 6 caravans or motorhomes. Each pitch has its own:
- parking for 2 extra vehicles
- toilet
- electricity
- fresh water supply
- household waste bin
There are male and female shower facilities on the site.
Who can use the site
We will consider all relevant information to each application before we make a decision. We want to support the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. We also need to look after the local community. We may refuse your application if you have:
- a history of anti-social behaviour or criminality
- previously stayed on the site and had your licence taken away (for example, for non-payment of fees, or damage to the site)
- a history of causing nuisance to the local community
- caused nuisance, anti-social behaviour or crime on an unauthorised encampment
These are examples, and not a complete list. We may take away your permission to stay if you behave in a manner that is similar to the examples above.
How much it costs
The fees for each pitch are:
- stays of less than a week: £20.00 per day
- stays of a full week: £125.00 per week
This includes use of facilities, electricity, fresh water and household waste collection.
You’ll need to pay a security deposit of £250.00. We will refund this when you leave, as long as you leave the site in a clean condition and free from damage. If you don’t, we may keep an amount up to £250.00 to repair any damage or clean the site.
We may make an extra charge if there is damage that costs us more than £250.00 to repair.
Fees are reviewed on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October each year.
How long you can stay
The maximum period for any one stay is 28 days.
Your family or group may not return to the site during the next 28 days after the date you leave.
No-one can occupy the site for more than a total of 84 days in any rolling 12 month period. This may be extended, but only in exceptional circumstances. This is by application to the Head of Community Safety and Enforcement, via the site’s managing agent.
This policy may be changed in exceptional circumstances or an emergency.
Apply to stay on the site
You can apply by phone up to 48 hours before the start of your stay.
How to get on to the site
The address of the site is: Pleck Transit Site, Darlaston Road, Walsall WS2 9QT
You will need to have an appointment to get onto the site. We will arrange this with you after you’ve made your application.
The site has a 1.9m height barrier. This opens so you can drive your caravan or motorhome onto the site, and leave at the end of your stay. Once you are on the site, this barrier is closed.
How to report a problem
If you’re staying on the site, we will give you a contact number for the managing agents. They will help with any problems on the site.
If you’re a local resident and want to report a problem or make a complaint about the site, you can contact the Community Protection team.
Why we have created a transit site
The purpose of the Pleck Transit Site is to provide a site where people following a travelling lifestyle may stay in the Borough for short periods. It also enables Walsall Council and its partners to support families during their stay if this is requested. In order to protect these aims, it is necessary to provide a maximum period of stay and a period during which a family or group of people may not return. The transit site also helps towards enabling Walsall Council to meet its duties under the Equality Act 2010.
