Statement of licensing policy

By law we must publish a statement of licensing policy that says how we will carry out our licensing functions in relation to:

  • alcohol
  • entertainment
  • late night refreshment

The policy is written under licensing laws and guidance issued by the government. It must be reviewed at least every 5 years.

Our policy helps officers and councillors to make decisions on particular applications. It sets out what needs to be considered when deciding whether to grant an application. It also sets out what conditions must be attached to any particular licence or certificate.

Our policy also tries to make things clear to applicants and residents. We aim to help you understand the objectives and matters we consider when deciding whether to grant licences.

As a licensing authority, we are under a duty to review the statement of licensing policy every 5 years. The Full Council adopted the current policy on 20 September 2021.
