Building control complaints policy
How to complain about building control
You can do this using our online complaints procedure:
What happens after you've submitted a complaint about building control
Once we've received your complaint, it will be brought to the attention of the building control management team. We will respond within the timeframes outlined in our corporate complaints procedure.
Where complaints reference a restricted function, the complaint will be considered by:
- a registered building inspector (RBI) licensed with suitable competency, or
- an RBI under the supervision of another RBI with suitable competency
Appeals - Local Government Ombudsman and/or Building Safety Regulator
After our stage 2 response, if you're still unhappy and want to take your complaint further, you can contact the Local Government Ombudsman.
The Local Government Ombudsman can offer limited advice and resolution when it comes to building control complaints, and so you may also wish to escalate your complaint to the Building Safety Regulator.
The Building Safety Regulator is the regulatory body for all registered building inspectors and all building control bodies (local authority building control and registered building control approvers) in England. You can complain to them about:
- registered building inspectors and registered building control approvers
- local authority building control in England
- Building Safety Regulator itself
