Overview
This rural retreat at the heart of Walsall town centre opened in 1874. It spans 170 acres and includes Hatherton Lake, the country park and the extension. The park includes gardens, green spaces, play areas, and sports facilities.
When you visit the Arboretum you will see a wide range of flora and wildlife. It has over 10,000 different species of trees and shrubs, which make a perfect backdrop for wedding photos. View permit prices for taking wedding photos at the Arboretum.
When it comes to sport and leisure, the Arboretum caters for all age groups. Many activities take place in the park, including walking, park runs, fishing and playing sports.

Accessibility
Park
The park has hard, flat tarmac-surfaced paths and some accessible walking trails. All pathways are at least 1100mm wide and many pathways are 1500 to 2000mm wide to allow for turning.
There are over 60 benches around the site. All are close to the paths for easy access.
Duck feeding and viewing platforms are accessible. Fishing pegs are available if required.
In the play area, the splashpad is accessible. There is a range of play equipment including a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and an accessible nest swing.
Visitor centre
Doors to the visitor centre are wide enough for wheelchair access, and accessed via a gentle slope.
There are 3 blue badge parking bays at the visitor centre within the park (accessed from Arboretum Road (WS1 2QH).
The pavilion has 2 wheelchair-accessible toilets (at least 2.2m x 1.5m). They have:
- outward-opening doors
- corner layout with grab rails
- higher level pan (480mm from floor to rim)
- a left hand transfer using a drop rail
- lever tap in the wash basin
- clothes hooks
- an easily-accessible emergency pull cord

Getting to the Arboretum
Several bus companies run services that will take you near to the Arboretum including National Express West Midlands, Diamond Buses and Arriva Travel.
There are free car parks at the Arboretum extension on Broadway North and The Crescent, and paid car parking sites are near to the town centre entrances to the park. View opening times for the on-site car park.
