Greening Bloxwich
The football pitches at the former Darlaston Town Football Club on Slater Street have fallen into disrepair since the club closed in 2013.
The land is designated public open space, meaning it cannot be built on. With a lack of available investors, it’s not possible to bring the ground back into use as a football facility.
Our proposal to improve the site
We are proposing to plant 1,410 native trees and shrubs, paid for by the government’s Trees for Climate fund. To prevent nearby homes being overshadowed, there would be a 3-metre strip of clear land around the edge of the woodland.
We will remove the derelict buildings and replace the whole perimeter fence. This won’t affect the boundaries of neighbouring properties.
To allow the trees to establish, we will secure the whole site for 5 years. This means there will be no public access. After 5 years, we’ll open up access points on Slater Street and Waverley Road. There will be a diagonal path between them, so that the local community can enjoy the public open space.
There are no plans to install any facilities such as benches or play equipment.
