Visiting the archives

We encourage you to book an appointment before you visit. Space is limited and we want to make sure that the material you want to view is available.

Email us to book an appointment

If you know what you'd like to look at, we can get the documents out for you in advance. You can find cataloguing records of our holdings online at the National Archives and Black Country History website.

Please bring your own equipment, writing paper and pencils (no pens allowed), and only bring the minimum bags and equipment for your visit. You will need to put any bags in a locker before you enter the research room. Lockers operate with a £1.00 coin – refundable when you return the key.

Books, maps and pencils are available for sale. We accept cash or credit/debit cards.
