Arranging a cremation

Facilities

Both chapels are fully accessible, and offer:

• external speaker system
• digital organ (we do not provide an organist)
• Obitus music system
• waiting areas
• accessible toilet facilities and baby change facilities
• induction loop
• service and hymn books, (including large print and braille, available on request)
• vestry
• religious symbols

There are 57 car parking spaces, including 4 disabled access spaces.

Standard or direct cremation

Standard cremation

The service lasts 45 minutes, which allows you 30 minutes in the chapel. It includes:

• attendants
• use of one of the chapels at the crematorium
• use of the organ
• use of the music system (your funeral director or celebrant should have access to our media library)
• medical referee fee to allow the doctor to authorise the cremation

The hearse must arrive at the crematorium prior to the service, so the coffin can be placed in the chapel.

After the service, when the mourners have left the chapel, the coffin will be moved.

Following cremation the remains are moved to a container which is clearly marked. The ashes are then collected or we intern or scatter in accordance with the applicant's wishes. 

Direct cremation

A direct cremation involves no formal funeral service. We carry out the cremation, and either return the ashes to the family or intern or scatter them in accordance with their wishes. 

This option costs less than a standard cremation as there is no service and mourners generally do not attend.

Forms for cremation

There are a number of statutory forms which must be completed to allow a cremation to take place. These forms are available on the government's website:

• cremation application form (form 1, completed by the person arranging the funeral)
• cremation medical certificate (form 4, completed by the doctor certifying the death)
• confirmatory medical certificate (form 5, completed by an independent doctor who verifies the details given by the doctor who completes Form 4)

The forms that you need can vary depending on the age of the deceased and whether the Coroner has been involved. You can find further guidance on the government's website.
