Zero tolerance: offenders handed fines for dumping waste in Walsall
Published on
Walsall Council has continued to crackdown on those who disrespect the borough, with 59 offenders paying fines for littering in the past month.
During that timeframe (from September 22 to October 20), Walsall Council has issued an additional 78 fines for the offence.
Anyone issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice is required to pay their fine within 14 days. Should the fine remain unpaid following a reminder, the council can then commence legal proceedings to take the case to court.
Since June 2022, Walsall Council’s community safety team has issued 2978 fines, 1783 of which were paid without court intervention.
“ These fines serve as examples of what happens when you get caught fly-tipping or littering in Walsall.
“I think it is important we continue to highlight that we are actively targeting those who disrespect Walsall.
“With new investment, our enforcement action will continue to increase. We will install new CCTV cameras and invest in legal resource to issue more fines to those who think this behaviour is acceptable. “
All revenue generated from fines is reinvested into enforcement activity, including the operation of CCTV cameras, to continue identifying offenders and deterring future incidents.
Walsall residents have access to two Household Waste Recycling Centres, located at Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Merchants Way, Aldridge — both free to use. The council also offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may find it difficult to transport larger items to a recycling centre.
Residents who require additional bin capacity due to growing families or medical needs can also apply for a larger bin via the council’s website.
