Youth bus hits the road in Walsall

Published on

A youth bus fitted with a mini recording studio has hit the roads in Walsall this week.

Fitted with creative media equipment, the bus is open to young people aged 11-19 to come along, get creative, and try out recording music and podcasts.

The bus tour is running alongside Youth Work Week, an annual celebration week organised by National Youth Agency which celebrates all things youth work.

Running from 4-10 November, this year’s theme is encouraging people to celebrate their individuality and get creative through art, music, and performance.

Some young people have already visited the bus at different locations across the borough, and there are still opportunities to see it in action this week:

  • Wednesday 6 November
North Locality Family Hub, 275 Blakenall Lane, Blakenall, Walsall WS3 1HJ
    5-7pm

  • Thursday 7 November
South & Central Locality Family Hub, Birchills Street, Walsall, WS2 8NG
    3.30-5.30pm

  • Saturday 9 November
Car park of Bloxwich Community partnership (BCP), The Electric Palace, Blakenall Row, Blakenall, Walsall
    10:30am-1:30pm

The tour is part of continued discussions the council is having with children and young people, to listen and understand their views about growing up in Walsall, and what they think are the challenges and opportunities young people face.

“ There’s still chance this week to see what the bus has to offer, so make sure you get down to see it!

The mini recording studio is impressive, and young people can spend time looking at all the equipment and tech to see how they can produce their own music.

The views and feelings of young people are so important to us as a council on our journey to the year 2040, and our youth work teams are travelling around with the bus too, ready to listen to your views.

If you can’t make it this week, don’t worry, and watch this space for more dates in the future where the bus is and out and about in Walsall.

About the Children’s and Young People’s alliance 2040 strategy

Walsall’s Children and Young Peoples Strategic Alliance is a partnership group that is responsible for the delivery of Walsall's Children and Young Persons Strategy.

The Alliance was launched in March 2023 and involves Walsall Council, West Midlands Police, Walsall NHS Healthcare Trust, Black Country Integrated Care Board, Black Country Healthcare NHS Trust, Walsall Together, Walsall Housing Group, Walsall College, University of Wolverhampton, and community organisations.

Recognising that today’s children will be adults in 2040, its objective is to develop new ways of thinking and new ways of working informed by the voice of children, young people and their families.

The strategy is being delivered under four main pillars:
• I am healthy, happy and well
• I have a voice, and I am heard
• I am hopeful and excited for the future
• I am safe in all spaces
