Ground preparation works on both sites were derailed last month after the previous construction contractor Buckingham Group went into administration.

The project, led by Transport for West Midlands and the West Midlands Rail Executive in partnership with Walsall Council, West Midlands Railways, Network Rail and the Department for Transport, will see two trains per hour call at the new stations. There will be an hourly service between Walsall and Wolverhampton.

“ I’m pleased to hear that the work on the new railway stations is back on track. The development of these stations is important for the Willenhall and Darlaston communities and will help us to achieve our goal of making Walsall one of the best-connected boroughs in the country.

Understandably, this has been a difficult time for Buckingham Group staff however WMCA has worked with Kier to resolve the situation swiftly, with many of the staff affected by the delay returning to site.

I want to thank WMCA and Kier for resolving the matter so efficiently so that we can look forward to seeing the stations come to fruition “

Walsall is in the midst of a £1.5billion transformation and the new railway stations are another piece of the jigsaw that will transform the borough and create a wealth of opportunities. Walsall aims to be one of the best-connected boroughs in the country, creating strong transport links within the West Midlands and beyond.
