Work completed to tackle allotment flooding

Published on

Work has been carried out to alleviate flooding issues at an allotment site in Walsall.

Digger completing dredging work at Grenfell Road Allotments in Little Bloxwich

A brook which runs through Grenfell Road Allotments in Little Bloxwich has been the source of flooding issues in recent times, particularly during heavy rainfall and snowfall.

Through Walsall Council’s corporate social responsibility programme, local company Brownhills Asphalt Tarmac Ltd used plant machinery to complete dredging work at the site in December 2024.  This involved the removal of unwanted vegetation and silt from the brook.

This work will ensure water can flow freely and mitigate against flooding for the foreseeable future.

“ I want to say a huge thank you to Brownhills Asphalt Tarmac Ltd for getting involved with this project.

“Previously, the brook running through this site swelled and breached its bank, leaving many plots unusable for weeks. For many, their allotment means the world to them, and this valuable work will help protect them “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council

“ We are keen to work alongside local partnerships providing necessary services to help improve communities. Our company is well-known for making charitable donations and we are proud to work with Walsall-based companies and organisations including Walsall Council and Walsall Football Club. “

Dan Bartram, Director at Brownhills Asphalt Tarmac Ltd
