“ Growing the economy through our strategic regeneration aims and objectives is part of our continuing long-term strategy and £1.5bn transformation programme. With over 1000 new homes and 1700 jobs currently in delivery, and a further 1000 homes and 3900 jobs in the pipeline, our regeneration programme is key to contributing to the vision and outcomes of We Are Walsall 2040 and our new Council Plan “
One of the major successes has been the completion of remediation on the SPARK site. The site, which was formerly a copperworks, has undergone extensive remediation to make the land viable for building.
Construction on the buildings is due to start soon, and the site will be home to 620,000sqft of brand new high-spec employment floorspace with the potential to create around 1000 jobs for local people.
Progress has also been made in Willenhall, with a compulsory purchase order (CPO) taking place to give the council ownership of some of the derelict sites and land in Willenhall to develop into new housing. The outcome of the CPO is expected imminently and the work will remove derelict buildings which can be dangerous as well as unsightly to bring them back into use for the community.
Councillor Andrew added: “I am very proud of the progress that we have made so far, and we will continue to strive towards a better future for the people of Walsall.”
