A wide range of sessions and workshops are being hosted from the council’s four Family Hubs.

What’s on between October and December 2024?

Stay and plays – An opportunity for you and your child to come along, for free, and spend some quality time with each other. Every stay and play has a specific theme, with fun and interactive activities for you and your little one to enjoy. For ages 0-5.

Dad stay and plays - Dads can come and meet other dads, ask any parenting questions they have with one of our parenting officers, whilst your children have fun with others.  For ages 0-5.

Grandparents’ coffee and chat – A safe space for grandparents to come along, enjoy refreshments, and talk all about the highs and lows of taking care of their grandchildren.

‘Don’t slam the door’ - Parenting a teenager can be daunting. Come to these sessions and learn about the difficulties and complexities of looking after a teen.

Parenting my way - Come and learn about how your own childhood can affect how you parent yourself. Discussions around keeping your child safe and looking after yourself during pregnancy and birth.

The Henry Programme – Health, Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young. This fun programme helps parents with children aged 0-5 adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Walsall Works drop-in sessions – Drop-in sessions with the council’s Walsall Works team. Any resident in Walsall over the age of 16 can come along to speak with a member of the team who can help with careers advice, training and skills support, CV writing, and practical help with job applications and interview preparations.

Breastfeeding support group – Every Friday between 11am and 12:30pm, the North Family Hub hosts a breastfeeding support group facilitated by Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust infant feeding service. The group is a space for mothers to come along and receive help with their feeding journey and speak with fellow mums about all-things feeding.

These are just a few of the events and workshops that are running at the Family Hubs between October and December.

More sessions at being held at our community spokes, which includes activities such as toddler splash, music classes, baby sensory sessions, and Halloween and Christmas seasonal events.

A full timetable of all events with dates, times and venues can be viewed on the Family Hubs website: https://www.walsallfamilyhubs.co.uk/

What are Family Hubs?

Family Hubs offer a welcoming space where families can access advice and support from a range of services. The Hubs have been set up to support families with children aged 0-19, or 0-24 for those children with special educational needs and disabilities.

With teams located in four locality hubs across the borough, a variety of services can be found all under one roof, to provide the families they work with easier access to these services, to provide the right help at the right time.

Practitioners include family support practitioners, health visitors, school nurses, early help police officers, domestic abuse support practitioners, mental health support and substance misuse support.

The four hubs are located at:

• North Family Hub - 275 Blakenall Lane, Blakenall, Walsall WS3 1HJ
• West Family Hub - Ilmington House, Crescent Road, Wednesbury, WS10 8AE
• South & Central Family Hub - Birchills Street, Walsall, WS2 8NG
• East Family Hub - Silver Court, Walsall, WS8 6HA

There are also an additional 10 ‘community spokes’ based in voluntary and community buildings across the borough.
