Whitsun Week is the last official school half-term before the big six-week summer holidays. Here’s a round-up of the activity coming up over the late May bank holiday week.
Activities on offer at The New Art Gallery Walsall

Sunday 24 May – Petal Prints – print colourful patterns using plants and ink pads.
Sunday 31 May – Blow Painting – using tubes and straws, blow paint across the page to make colourful abstract painting.
Bird Cage Thaumatropes
Tuesday 26 – Sunday 31 May, 10am-4.30pm. Free admission, drop-in sessions. All ages welcome.
Make a simple optical illusion toy using card and string.
Mini Makers – Toddler Tea Party
Tuesday 26 May, 11am-1pm. £4.00 per child. Ages two to five years old.
Use fine motor skills to cut, scrunch and stick colourful paper and tissue to decorate giant teacups and cakes. Also enjoy sensory play in the sand tray.
Wednesdays For All – Block Houses
Wednesday 27 May, 11am-3pm. Free admission, drop-in sessions. Ages four years old and above.
Turn a wooden block into a house and add to the gallery’s model village.
Young Masters – Slab Pot Houses
Thursday 28 May, 11am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3pm. £5.00 per child – advanced booking is essential as numbers are limited. Ages six years old and above.
Inspired by the streets of Walsall, construct a small house from clay with artist, Sam Mace. Master the technique of slab building pottery, learning how to build walls and cut out windows. Pop a tealight inside to add a warm, homely glow.

Take your little ones (under five years) along for some fun and safe water time at the Toddler Splash sessions – a relaxed and friendly session for toddlers and their grown‑ups.
Toddler Splash and Play
Non-members – £7.40. Move-it card holders – £4.75. Direct debit members – £3.70. Family direct debit members – FREE. Booking advised. Child admission policy applies.
Join in the fun with your toddler (under five years old) at the Splash and Play sessions. Enjoy playtime in the pool with toys and floats, and then in the sports hall there is a toddler bouncy castle, wiggle cars, sports and arts and crafts.
Roller Skating
£6.90 per person. Booking advised, suitable for all ages. Children under seven years old must be supervised by an adult.
Get your skates on and glide to the latest music. Roller skating takes place in the sports hall. Skate hire is available; sizes range from toddlers’ size five to men's size 13. Skate hire is £2.00 paid by cash payment only on the day.
Family Fun and Floats
Child admission policy applies.
Take your little ones along for some safe water time at the Family Fun and Floats sessions – perfect for building confidence and enjoying splashing fun together.
Junior Gym
Suitable for ages 11 to 15 years old.
Supervised Junior Gym sessions are available for young people aged 11 to 15 years. All sessions are overseen by a qualified member of the fitness team to ensure a safe and supportive environment. Before attending their first session, participants must complete an ‘All About You’ meeting with a member of fitness staff.
