What’s On Walsall – June 2025

This June, The New Art Gallery Walsall’s 25th celebrations continue with a Summer Party as well as two new exhibition launches. Walsall Arena & Arts Centre features top tributes to The Beatles as well as Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo, and Walsall Leather Museum offers hands-on workshops in bookbinding and hand-stitched cards.

Summer Party

Saturday 7 June, 11am-4pm. Free, all welcome. The New Art Gallery Walsall.

The New Art Gallery Walsall continue their 25th birthday celebrations with a free summer event promising creativity, conversation, and cake! Get hands-on with family-friendly crafts, meet the Gallery’s current artist in residence, and explore a joyful new gallery trail curated by the Collections Community Panel. Enjoy informal chats with the curators of the Earthbound exhibition and be among the first to see a new artwork created especially for the Gallery’s 25th.

Sunday Art Club

Sundays, 12-3pm. Age 4+. Free, drop-in.

The Gallery’s weekly art club for children and young people. Meet artists and creatives and learn to paint, print, sculpt, craft and more!

  • Sunday 1 June – Clay Caimans. Make your own reptile with dried beans & lentils.
  • Sunday 8 June – Portrait Cubes. Draw your own wooden cube characters using pens
  • Sunday 15 June – Superhero Masks. Make your own mask with card, paper & sequins
  • Sunday 22 June – Red, Blue & Orange. Paint mini square canvases with acrylics.
  • Sunday 29 June – Circular Compositions. Experiment with oil pastels, inspired by the work of Sonia Delaunay.

 

 

Baby & Me

Wednesday 11 June, 10.30am-12noon & 12.30-2pm.

Suitable for 0-24 months. £3.50 per child, places are limited, booking essential. Book at Reception or call 01922 654400.

Multi-sensory sessions for parents, carers and their babies. Explore colours and light projections, discover new smells, feel new textures in our touchy-feely books and relax in comfy cushions whilst you listen to a short story and meet other new parents.

 

Walk & Draw

Saturday 14 June, 11am-12.30pm. Free. Every second Saturday of the month. 

Artist Al Fawson leads these fast paced and fun workshops. Make speedy sketches of artworks in the Collections and temporary exhibitions, the Gallery’s architecture, the magnificent views from the Gallery’s windows, and the local area, including the wildlife along the canal, public sculptures and historical buildings along the high street. The focus will vary each month, therefore attendees are welcome to book onto all sessions, but this is not necessary.

Preview – Shelter: The Outside In National Open Exhibition

Friday 27 June, 6-8pm. Free.

The New Art Gallery Walsall is delighted to be working in partnership with Outside In to present their 7th National Open Exhibition. The award-winning charity Outside In was established in 2006 to support artists who meet additional barriers to the art world. This might be due to health, disability, social circumstances or isolation. For this exhibition, 81 artists have responded to the theme of ‘shelter’. Accompanying this project will be an exhibition on the theme of ‘shelter’ drawn from the Collections of The New Art Gallery Walsall and Outside In.

Senior Citizens Orchestra Concert 

Thursday 5 June, 2pm. £2. Tickets available on the door.

The Senior Citizens Orchestra perform bi-monthly concerts at Walsall Arena and Arts Centre. Their programmes always offer a great mix of fabulous music and feature a whole range of popular classics and favourite show tunes. The concerts also include invited guests and performers.

 

The Mersey Beatles

Fans of The Beatles prepare to be wowed by the world’s favourite Liverpool-born tribute to the Fab Four. The Mersey Beatles have been rocking sold-out shows around the globe since 1999 with their truly authentic and widely acclaimed celebration of John, Paul, George and Ringo.

 

Lost In Music

Black Country Dance Hub Summer Dance Festival

Black Country Dance Hub, in partnership with Walsall Arena and Arts Centre present three lively and entertaining dance performances by nurseries, schools, and colleges – part of a three-day celebration of dance by children and young people of all ages! Each day features a different programme and cast, with a variety of dance styles that showcase the incredible talent of local children and young people.

Walsall Youth Theatre: The Little Mermaid JR

Journey "under the sea" with Walsall Youth Theatre as they bring Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. to life! Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Stitchers and Skivers: Hand-stitched cards

Wednesday 11 June, 10am-1pm & 1.30-4.30pm. £6.50 (includes materials, tea and biscuits). Booking essential.

A warm welcome awaits you at the Museum’s regular craft sessions. Each month they take on a different craft or theme and participants are encouraged to experiment with the materials. Support and ideas are plentiful. All welcome.

 

Crafternoon

Saturday 28 June, 1-4pm. £12. (includes materials, tea and biscuits). Booking essential.

Get away from all of life's stresses and join us for an afternoon of crafting. There will be four different crafts available including Victorian puzzle cards and paper flowers. You can have a go at all of them or concentrate your efforts on one or two.
