In line with the government’s commitment to ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars from 2035, the borough of Walsall needs EV charging infrastructure to meet demands and make driving and charging an electric vehicle more accessible.

The council’s action plan aims to provide at least 600 standard chargepoints and 65 rapid chargepoints by 2030 through government capital funding and wider private investment.

“ The electric vehicle chargepoint strategy is another step towards carbon net zero for Walsall and, more importantly, making it easier for local people to make the switch to electric. People will be able to charge their vehicles on chargepoints across the borough regardless of whether they have access to a private driveway.

In 2022, domestic transport was the highest contributing sector of net greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. The main source of emissions from this sector is the use of petrol and diesel in road vehicles. Responding to climate change is critical to the future of the borough’s quality of life and the EV Strategy will help us towards a cleaner, greener future “

An initial 35 chargepoints are currently in the process of being installed across the borough, Walsall Council is working with Black Country Transport and charge point operator Wenea to deliver these.
