Walsall’s Christmas miracle: Hundreds of gifts distributed following successful donation appeal
Published on
Hundreds of gifts for children and young people in Walsall have been distributed just in time for Christmas.
Walsall Council launched an appeal to businesses in the borough on 6 December 2024, asking for support and generosity following a vehicle fire which damaged four thousand pounds worth of Christmas gifts beyond repair.
Within a week, businesses rallied together to donate gifts for children and young people aged 5-16 in Walsall, to ensure they receive at least one gift this Christmas.
The damaged gifts were due to be distributed as part of the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme coordinated by Walsall Council.
The appeal has recovered even more presents than what was lost in the fire, which means the council can support additional vulnerable families this Christmas.
One of the appeal’s donors were Walsall Golf Club, who raised over £2300 during the appeal.
Johnathan Coyne, captain of the club, said, “We explained the situation to our members that we had less than a week to raise funds to change these children’s Christmases, so we set up a donation point and held events at the club to raise the enormous sum of money we did, and we’ve been delighted to do so.”
TK Maxx in Walsall also donated to the appeal. Daniel Price, planning manager said, “After seeing the appeal that had gone out, and knowing the impact that it would have on underprivileged children in the area, we thought this was a great place for us to step up. Our donation was around 230 toys which we hope puts a smile on children’s faces this Christmas.”
A distribution day was set up at Manor Farm Community Association on 18 December 2024, so providers of the HAF programme could come and collect the gifts needed for the children booked onto their activities during the Christmas holidays.
“ Seeing all the presents waiting to be collected was simply amazing.
“We cannot thank everybody enough for their donations, big or small, you’ve really supported us in making a difference this Christmas.
“As a community, it’s fantastic to see what we have achieved in such a short space of time, by working together, and focusing on the needs of our children and young people.
“Thank you once again and Merry Christmas to all.
