Walsall shows support for independent traders on Small Business Saturday

Walsall Council is encouraging residents to shop local and support the borough’s small independent businesses this Small Business Saturday (6 December 2025) particularly in the vital run-up to Christmas.
Small Business Saturday is a national campaign highlighting the valuable contribution that local businesses make to high streets and communities across the country. From family run shops to cafés, salons and service providers, independent traders play a key role in boosting the local economy and helping to make Walsall a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
To support the campaign, Walsall Council is encouraging residents to show their support by shopping local and choosing independent. Of the 895 retail businesses in Walsall, 99.4% of all retail business in Walsall are classed as micros or SMEs highlighting the importance of small business to the local economy.
“ Small Business Saturday is a great reminder of just how important our independent businesses are to Walsall. They bring character, creativity and choice to our high streets and neighbourhoods, and every pound spent locally goes directly back into our community.
With Christmas fast approaching, now is the perfect time to explore our markets, local shops and independent traders. Shopping local makes a real difference and helps ensure that our town centres and local high streets continue to thrive “
The council continues to work closely with partners and traders to strengthen Walsall’s high streets, with investment across the borough focused on regeneration, improving public spaces, and supporting business growth and resilience.
Residents are encouraged to get involved on the day by sharing photos of their favourite independent purchases and experiences using the hashtag #ShopWalsall and #SmallBizSatUK.
