Walsall set to fly the flag for the Commonwealth

The Mayor of Walsall will be hosting a ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth Day’ event in Walsall on Monday 11 March 2024 at 11am.
Held on the second Monday of every March, Commonwealth Day is designed to celebrate the shared values that unite 2.5 billion people across 56 countries, offering opportunities for friendship and cooperation between the diverse and vibrant cultures within the Commonwealth.
The theme for this year, which marks the 75th Anniversary of the modern Commonwealth, is 'One Resilient Common Future', reflecting the focus of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Chris Towe said: “I am delighted and honoured to be raising the flag for Commonwealth Day in Walsall as it brings people together throughout the Commonwealth to show appreciation for the values we uphold.
“Flying The Commonwealth flag celebrates our membership of an amazing worldwide family of nations in common purpose and hundreds of Commonwealth Flags will be flown in significant positions across the UK on this day.
“It is an opportunity to publicly and collectively celebrate the continuing success of the Commonwealth in building on common traditions as well as shared values of democracy, rules of law and human rights to advance the opportunities for development and growth for all.”
The Walsall event will be hosted on The Council House Forecourt, Lichfield Street, Walsall. School Children from Meadow View JMI School and Christ Church C of E Primary School will participate on the day, raising the Commonwealth Flag and reciting the Commonwealth Affirmation.
