Walsall pupils shine in wellbeing art competition
Published on
Children and schools across Walsall have been getting creative in an art competition to raise awareness about wellbeing.

Nine schools took part in Walsall Council Public Health’s art competition on ‘How Do You Look After Yourself?’, inviting children to think about how they look after their health and wellbeing using the council’s 8 Steps to Wellbeing (a plan that focuses on key areas to promote health and wellbeing). The eight steps are: be active, take notice, connect, give something to others, learn something new, nutrition and hydration, sleep for wellbeing, and hope for the future.
Across the nine schools, over 40 entries were received. Prizes were awarded to schools and pupils in each key stage, which included vouchers for sports equipment (for the school) and shopping vouchers (for pupils), 8 Steps to Wellbeing products (water bottles and stationery), a mug and a certificate. These were presented by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris at a ceremony at the Council House on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
First, second and third prizes were awarded for entries from each school. There were two joint overall winners from two schools, who won the overall Borough prize. There were also runner-up prizes for second and third for the Borough.

County Bridge Primary School (Bentley) and Park Hall Junior Academy were the joint school winners. Cooper and Jordan C of E Primary School (Aldridge) and New Invention Learning Academy (Willenhall) were the runners-up.
The winning entries will be used by Walsall Council’s Public Health team to create a booklet which will be shared with schools and clubs to help children and young people find ways to look after themselves and feel good.
“ I would like to congratulate everyone who has taken part in this competition and to the individuals and schools that won or who were placed in the top three for their school.
It's inspiring to see the creativity and thoughtfulness of our young people in Walsall. This art competition has not only showcased their talents but also highlighted the importance of looking after one's health and wellbeing. Eight Steps to Wellbeing provides a fantastic framework for everyone to follow and I'm thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation from our schools. “
“ The engagement of our pupils in this art competition is a true reflection of their understanding and commitment to well-being. Through their artwork, they’ve beautifully expressed how they care for themselves, and it’s inspiring to see their ideas come to life. This competition has not only fostered creativity but also reinforced the essential skills and knowledge needed to live a happy, healthy, and thriving life. “
